The 6th Extractives Sector Forum took place on June 15th 2017. This was the second in a series of discussions on land access and acquisition which interogated the roles of various institutions involved in the extractives industry and how they coordinate with each other. The parties involved in this discussion were government bodies, civil society, private investors and members of academia. The forum provided an open space for dialogue. As a result it highlighted some of the land questions that plague the extractives industry such as mass displacement of population and the legal framework enabling the smooth displacement of people, important human rights questions that need to be addressed and some of the gaps among the various institutions involved. The forum was successful in shedding light on ambiguous areas and raised pertinent questions which many felt ought to be answered.
Please look forward to a detalied report of the discussions.
